Soap is something we use every day, multiple times a day. We have to have it. So, why would we want to spend more to buy an organic product when we are trying to make the most of every budget dollar? The truth is the use of non organic soap can affect your health a lot more than organic affects your budget. Big name commercial soaps are filled with chemicals. One of the most prevalent is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate. This chemical is used to as a degreaser on machinery. Yet, we are supposed to use it on our skin. “The companies will not tell you that this chemical is actually known to cause cancer and also speeds up the action of male baldness.” On the other hand, the ingredients in organic soaps are all easy to read. They are natural and safe to use every day without fear of long term health consequences. “For many organic producers their ingredients are pesticide free and very healthy for your body and the environment.” Soap is not something you can give up, but you can give up the chemicals. You can use a less expensive bar today which may cause significantly higher medical expenses in the future, or you can spend a little more today to protect yourself from harmful, toxic chemicals. The choice is simple. ### SOURCE: http://ezinearticles.com/?Why-Buy-Organic-or-Natural-Soap?&id=6951601 PHOTO: Palina60 Loon – ‘Sapone Soap’ https://www.flickr.com/photos/pallina60loon/

It’s once again the time of year when it seems everywhere you turn you see people coughing and sneezing. No one wants to take that home with them, but we cannot lock the doors and stay inside until spring. The next best option has to be hand washing. The better job we do washing our hands, the less likely we will be to bring flu and other viruses into our homes and bodies this year. “Remember, good health hygiene is critical and as parents, it’s really important to teach our kids good health hygiene from the very start so healthy habits can continue as they get older.” Children cannot protect themselves from germs if we do not show them how to properly wash their hands.
So simple and yet so often overlooked. Take the time to clean your hand and teach your children to clean them properly as well. Your family will thank you for it. ### SOURCE: http://www.wellsphere.com/healthy-living-article/swine-flu-vs-soap-our-bet-s-on-the-soap/659768 PHOTO: Tina Franklin – Sneeze https://www.flickr.com/photos/97481684@N08/ We take pains to protect our heart, lungs, liver, and eyes but our skin is the largest organ we have. The steps we take to maintain it, may actually be causing it damage. If a natural alternative to traditional soap is something you are looking for, goat milk may be the solution. There are several benefits to using goat milk in your personal care products. First, it is high in alpha-hydroxy acids which helps remove dead skin cells. This leaves skin looking younger and feeling smoother. It works by breaking down the bond between the new skin and dead skin cells instead of using chemicals to break down the skin cells, as many commercial soaps do. Furthermore, goat milk has natural anti-inflammatory properties which sooths damaged skin. This is in part because the goat milk is so full of essential oils. It also has natural antibiotic properties which aides in the treatment of acne. Need another reason to choose natural goat milk soap? “Journal of The American College of Toxicology blamed sodium lauryl sulfate concentrations as low as 0.5 percent for causing skin irritation. Further studies showed that concentrations of 10-30 percent were found to cause severe skin corrosion. The "Household Products Directory" of the National Institutes of Health lists over 80 products that contain sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium laureth sulfate with concentrations up to 30 percent.” These chemicals are absorbed through the skin and stored in the cells of the body potentially damaging deeper layers of skin so “new” skin is damaged from the start. It becomes an endless cycle of damage and struggling to make skin look healthy. And in truth, you can’t wash with chemical soaps and stop damaging your skin so you buy more and more products to stop the effects of the damage you do every day. Stop the damage before it starts and recover the skin you deserve. A change to healthy natural goat milk soap is the solution. The fact is it could be caused by something people are willingly rubbing all over their skin every day. It turns out that a preservative used in many commercially available soaps, methylisothiazolinone, may be to blame. “Methylisothiazolinone which is the body care industry's version of "meth," is manufactured into many products, including hair products, laundry detergents, cleaning supplies, sunscreens and facial cosmetics. It's everywhere in modern body care concoctions, and it's not doing the skin any good.” In some cases, the people affected have suffered from unexplained rashes for years before a dermatologist determines the cause. And the solution is as simple as switching to natural bath products. “The chemical preservative is practically a poison and causes a painful itchy and blistery rash similar to poison ivy.” And, these same products may even be causing nerve damage. Other countries such as Japan and Canada have already taken steps to protect their citizens from the effects of methylisothiazolinone by placing it on the restricted list for personal care products. We all know soap can be drying and irritating but the chemicals in soap may be doing far worse. We are rubbing chemicals onto our bodies known to cause rashes and even nerve damage. We owe it to ourselves and our families to protect ourselves from the potential harm by choosing natural products. Consequently, we recommend our products if you’re looking to avoid harsh chemicals and ingredients that are causing unwanted skin problems. ### Curation Source: http://www.naturalnews.com/044475_allergic_rash_methylisothiazolinone_antibacterial_soaps.html Photo Source: Skoglund1957 – My Rash https://www.flickr.com/photos/lindsey-purvis_photography/ Of all the places I expect to find plastic in the world around me, inside my bath soap is not one of them. But, if you use an exfoliating soap, they are probably in there. They can cause significant environmental issues. Because of this, Illinois has recently passed legislation to rid soap in their state of plastic microbeads. This is no small issue. The concentration of microbeads currently in Lake Ontario, averaged 1.1 million plastic particles per square kilometer. The harm comes from the fact that the beads end up in the water where the fish egg size beads are consumed by fish. Humans then consume the fish and the plastic beads. The legislation that passed plans for the end of production of microbead soaps by 2018 and them to be off the market completely in Illinois by 2019. “Karen Ross, a spokeswoman for the Personal Care Products Council, says that L'Oreal, Johnson & Johnson and Procter & Gamble are already on board with the new law, agreeing to phase out microbeads from personal care products.” These companies are currently looking for natural alternatives for exfoliates. At Adams Handmade Soap ONLY NATURAL INGREDIENTS ARE USED AS EXFOLIATES, they include:
http://www.adamshandmadesoap.com/apps/search?q=exfoliation I, for one, am glad to hear this change is being made. I personally prefer natural soaps with natural ingredients and love seeing that Illinois is being proactive in solving a problem that most states are not even looking at currently. I hope to see more states and companies follow the example set forth. ### Curation Source: http://www.naturalnews.com/045501_plastic_microbeads_Illinois_water_pollution.html Image Source: Evelyn Giggles - Tiny Beads - https://www.flickr.com/photos/evelynishere/ Is acne or sensitive skin a problem when washing up? It is for many; use the wrong product, something scented, or type of cleaner and you break out. To start right, you’ll want to use non harsh cleansers, and warm water, not hot water; natural & organic ingredients work the best. Here are some basic skin care steps that are not always considered when taking care of your skin. It also goes over some common ingredients to avoid and look out for.
Other advice from experts suggest limiting exfoliation of your face, it can excessively strip your skin of its natural moisture. Spot treat and deal with breakouts as soon as they occur. Also, don’t forget your sunscreen during those sunny days. Lastly, make sure to change your towels regularly, pillow cases often, as well as other brushes that you may apply to your face. Because acne is related to infected, over-stimulated oil glands in the skin, it’s best to avoid the following foods: Animal fats (red meats & pork), dairy products (butter, cheese & yogurt), chocolate and commercial sweets. Other stimulants to avoid are: Alcohol, nicotine and caffine. ### To view a more complete skin care list, please visit our curated sources at: http://www.reddit.com/r/SkincareAddiction/comments/1obikt/ultimate_clear_skin_checklist/ http://www.gaiamtv.com/article/natural-skin-detox-clear-acne-prone-skin Photo Sources: Sluda Progama de Slud – Acne |
