Many try out the idea of making handmade soaps. Some find it is significantly more work and stress than they initially bargained for and they want no part of it. Others, however, find they love the entire process of making their own soap. Then, they find that the make considerably more than a usable amount. The next step of course is to find ways to sell it so they can continue doing what they love and find a way not to store 400 bars under the bathroom sink. There are many places you can get started selling your soaps. Ebay, Etsy, Amazon and other online retail spaces can be a great asset. “You can host a soap party and sell your soap to people in your home.” This is a great idea if you want to get to know your neighbors a little better. Other options include local craft fairs and farmer’s markets. “Whatever method you decide to use to sell your soap, just make sure to calculate the cost of all the ingredients, plus the time you have invested into making the soap.” Soap making can be a rewarding and profitable hobby for those who have the time to invest in the process. It can allow you to take a personal passion and turn it into a business. And, when you love what you do, you never work a day in your life. FYI - A few fans of ours have moved up to become resellers. We handle the labor intensive part of making the handmade soap, and they run the business as fits them best. It’s a no-brainer; they get our quality products at discounted prices, earn extra cash too, as a distributor. More on this lucrative opportunity will follow in future posts. ### SOURCE: http://www.veggiesoaps.com/articles/great-ways-start-selling-your-homemade-soap/7.asp PHOTO: Shankar S. – Homemade Olive Oil Soap https://www.flickr.com/photos/shankaronline/

We are all looking for a better and more natural way to care for our skin. This can be especially important when removing our makeup and other products we add to our faces. What we do not want is something which makes our skin drier and contaminates our bodies with chemicals. The solution is quite simple, inexpensive, and readily available at most stores. “Witch hazel water removes makeup residue and is gentle on skin.” It is made from the witch hazel flower and works great as a skin toner. It removes make up without the added chemicals found in most big name products. And, fragrance can be added by combining equal parts rose water and witch hazel water. “For stressed, dry skin, apply extra-virgin olive oil after you take a shower or wash your face.” It still moisturizes as well as the big brand products but costs a small fraction of the cost. These products make skin care natural and inexpensive. They are natural ingredients which are found in most major stores. It is a simple thing we can do to take better care of ourselves and our skin without breaking the bank or searching all over for the needed components. ### SOURCE: http://www.motherearthnews.com/natural-health/worlds-simplest-skin-toner-zm0zfmzkin.aspx#axzz3Q9sKKjFg PHOTO: https://www.flickr.com/photos/toob/ - Face lifting Our hair has a lot of impact on the way we look. It can be used to highlight our other assets or hide something we are uncomfortable with. But, to do its job properly, it has to be in top condition. So, a high quality hair wrap is an indulgence our hair deserves. The first thing to do when making a hair wrap is to know what you want to accomplish with the wrap. The Rosemary Citron Scalp treatment is perfect antidote for your damaged hair. Every aspect of it is chosen specifically for what it can do for the fragile hair. “Rosemary stimulates the scalp; avocado—rich in fatty acids and vitamins A, B, and C—helps condition hair; and grapefruit provides an uplifting scent.” It is a combination of avocado oil, and essential oils from rosemary, cedar, and grapefruit. Once the ingredients are mixed in the correct proportions, it is super simple to use. “Pour oil into palm of hand and massage mixture into scalp and hair. “ Our DIY solution is to combine a measure (1 part) of avocado with (2 parts) of our two popular soaps Citron Honey Coriander and Rosemary Natural Soap. You combine the all natural soaps using the recipe for liquid soap we published in our previous article, Why We Don't Make Foaming Handsoap. And, ‘wha lah’, you have your perfect hair solution. Taking the time to do nurture your scalp and hair with a great wrap is a fantastic way to pamper yourself and help make your hair healthy and strong. It allows you to spoil yourself and take care of yourself all at the same time. That is a definite win. ### SOURCE: http://www.naturalhealthmag.com/beauty/diy-hair-mask PHOTO: Marie – Wrapping my hair Everyone wants great looking hair. There are nearly as many products on the market out there promising amazing hair as there are heads of hair to put it on. Which choice is really the best for giving your hair the luster and shine you desire? It turns out the best choice may not be found in the health and beauty section but is instead found in the supermarket. Virgin coconut oil may be the best choice for keeping your hair healthy. “Coconut oil’s benefits are widely recognized today, and numerous studies have proven its astounding capability to improve your health.” We want to protect out hair as much as possible. One key way to do this is to prevent the loss of protein. “Researchers found that coconut oil was the only one that reduced protein loss for both damaged and undamaged hair.” It makes an amazing prewash or postwash conditioner. The health benefits of coconut oil have been found to extend outside the body. The same components which make it amazing for the inside of your body have similar effects for the outside. It makes an excellent replacement for traditional hair oil treatments giving you naturally beautiful, soft hair without the chemicals you do not want. If we fail to apply or reapply during the course of the day, I come home with very burned babies. And, those burns today can lead into serious skin consequences later. Since skipping is not an option, what is needed is something safe to use on the entire crew regularly. “I knew that sunscreen contained chemicals but was surprised at the amount of toxic chemicals listed in the ingredients.” This was not the direction I wanted to head. “I have read many articles that actually show evidence that there is an increase in cancer when sunscreens are used. “ Instead, of chemicals, I chose to go with a more natural sunscreen option. A non-nano zinc oxide base provides the sun protection needed while the beeswax component makes it waterproof which is vital when dealing with kids. The best all natural sunscreen we've come across is from Adams Handmade Soap. Click on the link, natural sunscreen, to order yours today. I have to protect my kids wherever I can. That means sunscreen even when they do not want it. And it also means choosing sunscreen which protects their skin instead of adding chemicals which could be dangerous in the long run. It is just worth it to take a more natural approach. ### SOURCE: http://www.earthmamasworld.com/homemade-natural-sunscreen-sunblock/ PHOTO: Shira Gal – Wear Sunscrean https://www.flickr.com/photos/miss_pupik/ Personal hygiene is an important part of how we take care of ourselves and how the world sees us. There are many components to consider. One vital part of our personal hygiene regiment must be how we care for our skin. Skin is seen and felt on such a regular basis that its care is vital to how we are perceived. “A good bath once or twice a day is recommended.” It keeps us fresh and feeling our best. “You can use a bath sponge for scrubbing.” but do keep in mind skin is delicate so harsh or abrasive materials should be avoided. And of course, no bath would be complete without the key components of soap and water. The soap you choose can certainly lend significantly to the bath experience. A warm bath with a great soap leaves you ready to take on the world again. It rejuvenates the mind as well as the body. “Drying with a clean towel is important.” Removing excess water from the surface of the skin helps keep the warm feeling even after the bath has ended. A bath is one simple way you can treat yourself to a little pampering every day. It allows some quiet time to reflect and relax from the bustle of the world outside. It may just become the best part of the day. ### SOURCE: http://www.webhealthcentre.com/HealthyLiving/personal_hygiene_routine.aspx#2 PHOTO: Ben Smith – Me Time https://www.flickr.com/photos/dotbenjamin/ It has been around for thousands of years. We use it every day. We trust it with our health and the health of our family. Of course, we are talking about soap and like most other things, it is the simplest soaps which serve us the best. This means with soap, it is time we get rid of the extra hype and get back to the basics. “Created from the numerous variations of ingredients, all soaps have two main ingredients – animal or vegetable oils/fats and an alkaline solution that enables the process of saponification.” In ancient Babylon soap was made from boiling animal fat with water and ash. If the process really so simple, what exactly is the list of ingredients on the back of those big commercial brands? Big name brand soap companies think they need to add chemicals to make the soap lather more or last longer. And, the result is an entirely different product than what we started out with. The best choice in soap is a product of natural ingredients, handmade. All natural soaps return to the simple way of making it right without chemical add ins. It gives us clean, healthy skin without the toxic trade off which comes with commercial soaps. ### SOURCE: http://www.soapmakingfun.com/soap-making-tips-tricks/hygiene.shtml PHOTO: http://yellowmeansgo.tumblr.com/post/4454866849/dear-face-wash-commercials-nobody-actually When it comes to soaps, most of us fall into one of two categories: bar people and liquid people. Sometimes we find one is just better for the, "job at hand". When you start looking into natural soaps, mostly what we find tends to be bars, but let’s face it, sometimes a liquid would be a nice convenient alternative. The solution is as simple as a pot and a bottle! You can easily transform your favorite natural bar into a liquid alternative with just a few simple steps. “In a liquid soap world, bar soap just feels so wrong sometimes! “ It takes 8-10 cups of water, a bar of your favorite soap, a grater, whisk, beater, and some patience. In almost no time, you’ll have a liquid version of the pure, natural soap you love. This method allows you to transform any bar you like into the “body wash or hand soap” that you’ll love. It also allows you the versatility to choose your favorite natural soaps to nourish your skin while still giving you the convenience of liquid soap you desire. It lets your skin and your luffa fall in love with your soap again. It's a win any way you wash it. ### SOURCE: http://www.examiner.com/article/diy-natural-liquid-hand-soap-or-shower-gel PHOTO: Martin Waugh – Liquid Sculpture http://www.liquidsculpture.com/ You want what is best for your baby. You buy car seats and cribs. You look at all the latest information on the latest and best options in child rearing. Then, you lather our little darlings in chemicals such as sodium lauryl sulphate which can strip skin of vital natural oils and cause irritation to their delicate skin. Wait, can that be right? This sounds like some kind of crazy torture. And no one would knowingly want to harm their baby’s tender skin. Perhaps you know this ritual by another name. You likely call it bath time at your house. If you are using commercially available soap on your baby, this is probably a very accurate description of your daily routine. So, what can a parent do? Simply switch to natural soap. “By making homemade soap for kids, it gives you the liberty of using the ingredients that you want to use and avoid the harmful chemicals like SLS.” You can create a soap which addresses the skin needs of your baby to make it a perfect fit for him or her. It is one little thing you can do to make everyday just a little more gentle for your precious bundle. ### SOURCE: http://www.soapmakingideas.net/homemade-soap.html and http://www.naturalsoapwholesale.com/All-Natural-Baby_b_30.html PHOTO: Takuma Kimura – PhoTones Works #148 - https://www.flickr.com/photos/photones/ We know there are a lot of choices on the market today for soap. They all seem to make big promises of softer skin, healthy glows, and amazing fragrance while still being mindful of sensitive skin. The truth is, most commercial soaps are harmful to the people using them and wreak havoc on sensitive skin. The only real solution for a soap you can trust to perform as it claims is a natural soap. There are many people these days who deal with sensitive skin. And, most commercial soaps, no matter what claims they make, tend to exasperate the problem. “Natural soaps are recommended especially to people with sensitive skin.” This is because natural soaps do not use the harsh chemical components of commercial soaps. And, though cost may look higher initially, when you factor in what you will not need to spend on additional products to treat the sensitive skin issues, the savings in using natural quickly become apparent. Natural soaps are ideal for personalizing. “The ingredients may include coconut oil, olive oil, aloe Vera or any other natural ingredients that fits your individual needs.” This provides a great range allowing you to give your skin exactly what it needs and nothing else. And, even without having it as a main selling point, the scent from the natural ingredients still gives that amazing fragrance without the chemical fillers. ### SOURCE: http://ezinearticles.com/?Information-on-Natural-Soaps&id=7041155 PHOTO: tec_estromberg – Baby After Bath #34 https://www.flickr.com/photos/92334668@N07/ |
